Do you guys have oil cools? I bought this 85 vette motor it had a oil cooler but its not there now just 2 hoses that come out of the motor just above the oil filter. Do in need a cooler if i dont need the cooler what do i have to do to remove it from the motor. if i need where can i buy one from.

 

you dont need it , just plug lines
if you want to run one any auto parts store sells trans/oil coolers just hook it up mount it in front of radiator

Are you sure you want to plug the lines? Surely what you have is a splitter plate that takes the oil heading to the filter and fires it out to an oil cooler, then the return from the cooler goes to the engine. Thus you should connect the two ports on the splitter plate together with a short length of pipe. If you plug both pipes you will get no oil flow.

The better way to remove the cooler is to remove the splitter plate between the engine and the filter.

Last time I checked the coolers were close to $300 bucks. I would bet that they are since discontinued but not sure. Ron @ Contemporary Corvette is my favorite place for used vette parts. There are other places as well. Give him a call and see if he will sell you one cheap. I have a spare and stored it . If you have to spend a silly amount of money to make it work I would suggest a quality aftermarket unit. Your money will be better spent. To my suprise my factory cooler reduces oil temp quite a bit.

 

Do you think I could remove that plate and put the one from my 305 will that work. Why did they put it there is it for high out put motors

 

actually he'd be fine plugging the lines. the only thing that flows in these oil "coolers" is engine coolant, not oil. It simply circulates coolant between the filter and the pickup in a sad attempt at cooling. You could just remove the adaptor for the cooler all togather, won't really make a difference.

Did they really do something that stupid? the only oil coolers I've dealt with have been proper ones that split the oil out just above the filter through an oil cooler and back. Usually you also need a temp dependant loopback to help the engine heat up quickly.
