heads

how would these heads be on a goodwrench 350 with a new cam? i was going to redo a set of 416's but these would be cheaper and i would have a warranty.

Sounds like those are just modern castings of the old double humps. Those heads were good in their day, but dated in their technology. IMO, you should just spend a few extra bucks and see what Dart or AFR have. MUCH better stuff for the money.

Are you sure that the $324+ cost is not for 1 head. Wouldn't it be $750+ for a set?

yea, that seams real cheap for a pair...but look at the combuston chamber, the valves have allot of shrouding on them....can't be much better than stock "proformance" heads

You could probably get a decent set of Vortec heads for the same, maybe less, and they are a better head.

i just got my summit mini starter and those heads were in a flyer inside the box. a pair is 649 vortechs are 649 but ill have to get an intake and covers. thanks for the replys. i think ill go back to plan a have my 416's redone and use "sitting bulls" home port and polish guide.
one more question, i bought the 416's off of a member here and he said they were completely stock. when i take them to the machine shop i should tell them....

1. cut for 1.94-1.60 valves which i will supply

2.screw in studs

3. make sure they are true, flat

4. new guides

5. install new springs which i will supply

im think im going to get a cam with a 454 lift. what have i missed?
i have played with vw's for 20+ years but this is my first water cooled project. wanna attempt to do it right. thanks

$649...yeah, that's right.

I'm an engineer and I can't do basic math...go figure.

If your going to port I recommend having them looked over/checked for cracks...then cut for the valve size you want and do a "rough" 3-5 angle valve job (not finished). Then port them.

Once finished...take them back for new guides, prep for use of positive seals, finish the valve job, and cut for screw in studs. If you have, or choose to invest in some tools...you can pull out press in studs, install screw in studs, and install springs/valves yourself. It's not difficult...may take a couple of stabs to get the hang of it, but anyone can do it.

Plenty of information on this website and at the book store on modifying the heads yourself. Save you some cash!

Summit isn't in the casting business. They're in the retail resale business. Therefore, those aren't "Summit" heads; they're somebody's heads who is in the casting business, that Summit buys, packages, private-labels, and resells.

I'm betting they're World S/R Torquers. The description matches them fairly closely.
