Getting rid of AIR have a q.

I am going to remove my AIR system since I dont need it anymore. I am planning on keeping it just in case.

Well my question is this...I have the stock exhaust manifolds in with the tubes coming off of them. What would be a good way to seal those holes up. My friend suggested to use plan old bolts. Would that work or no and if so is there anyone that has done it and know what size bolts they are? I am pretty sure that is all I need but if there is anything you guys think I should do just let me know. Thanks for the help.

I just removed mine. I still need to find a way to get the pipe that goes around the back of the engine though. I used a brass plug to seal up the holes and wrapped them in teflon tape. I "think" it was a 1/4 size plug. I got them at home depot, O'reillies and autozone... Nobody had 8 of them so I had to go three different places. Just take the old pipe fitting with you so you get the right size. Hope that helps. ~Arnold

Its actually straight thread, something stupid like 3/8" UNC I think...
I have brass pipe thread plugs in mine, I think they are 1/4", just like the post above. I wouldnt bother with teflon tape, its just gonna melt away.

Getting the pipe off that goes around the back isnt easy at all, I just left mine on there, it isnt in the way and doesnt weigh much at all.

Behind the heads there is a bolt on each side holding the pipe on and also some ground wires. Use a box end ratchet wrench and take the nuts off and it will come right off. Just remeber to put the ground wires back on. It is also easier if you remove the valve covers.

I think I had the 3/8 brass plugs too but I cant remember for sure. just put some grey high temp antisieze on em first.
both those rear pipes came out with some strugling for me but it felt like they were just wraped around the harness back there and all I did was move it and the pipes came out.
dont forget to take the pump off too.

Really quickly do I have to get a smaller belt for my serpentine system? I have underdrive pulleys on there now so I do have a smaller belt but will I need to get an even smaller one since I am getting rid of the AIR?

Hey Evan, my friend Mike that has that 85 T/A that I used to own is looking into doing that mod as well. He can't stand the look of that crap (who can? lol). His car is a v-belt setup though so he doesn't have to worry bout the belt deal. I saw a tech article (on this site I think) that talked about skipping the AIR pump by routing the belt differently, removing the pump, and getting a slightly shorter belt. I would say that you should be able to look at how much shorter the belt is that they used after they made their AIR pump removal and than take your current belt off and have it measured and get one that is the correct amount shorter. I know that Checker has a belt measuring tool at every store for that type of thing.

I did. The pic on the tech article is mine (the one with only the smog pump missing). There have been people that rerouted the belt differently IIRC and got the same length to work.
