Water pump info.

I was thinking of changing my water pump and was just curious any what you guys have to say. It seems straight forward. Are there anything that I should be aware of, etc. Also should I buy one from AutoZone or get one elsewhere. If elsewhere then please tell me where. Any info would be appreciated.

Its very straight foward.

Use a sealant (liquid teflon sealant) on the water pump bolts that hold it to the block. These go through to water.

Buy a new pump, stay away from rebuilts.

Change any questionable hoses/belts while you are there, cheap insurance.

What about those water pumps that use the battery rather than the belt. Are they any useful?

That might take some stress off of the motor, and free up a negligible amount of power. Neat that they have those, I never knew that.

Electric water pumps are for drag racing only, and have limited service life.

Another vote for Stewart water pumps. There's a reason why all of NASCAR uses them.

One of the Electric water pump companies claims 20,000 hours between failures. I have known a few people who have run them on the street with no problems.

Definately go with a Stewart water pump. I recently had to replace my stock pump so I opted to try a Stewart's.. It cools MUCH faster, and I rarely ever get past the first peg of my temp gauge (89 iroc gauge). Plus, the price of the Stewart pump isn't that much more than the price of the Aut ozone pump. Unless, of course, you're going for a stage 3.. but.. A stage 1 would be fine for a stock car.

Where can I get one of those Stewart water pumps? It sounds like something that summit would carry, but thats just a guess.
