Engine mods done, very happy.

Just got my Holley and Edelbrock intake put on. You guys would not believe the improved operation of the engine. I havent done the headers yet, so there wasnt a big power gain, but she runs much smoother and isnt choking to death on smog equipment. I cant wait to get the Headers bolted up, I'm hoping for at least a 15 h.p. gain, but I will settle for 10. The old intake looked awful inside, so the engine looks and runs great now. Any thoughts?

Good to hear. it's always good to hear how happy people are when they put a holley on

One thing..just to be a bit redundant..you did replace the distributer with a non computer controlled one right?

I put a vacuum advance one on there. Ive only got one problem now, dialing in the Holley. Im still having trouble with my RPM dropping below 500 and trying to stall if I brake quickly. Im thinking something in the fuel line, so Im gonna have to work on that. But otherwise, shes running smooth as silk. Ive got my idle set to 800 in neutral/park, which puts it at around 630 in drive,,,,,sound too low? Let me know what you guys think.

That idle sounds fine for a stockish motor.

Problems when braking too quickly is probably the float level being set wrong. you want it so that fuel just barely leaks out of the sight holes when you rock the car.

Hmm, I had a similar problem but with my Qjet. It turned out to be the centrifugal advance weight and springs under the distributor cap were kinda stuck together. Go figure. A healthy dose of WD40 fixed that and it idles quite well now

Yeah, but its a new distributor, so I hope its not a problem with it. Im leaning more towards the maladjusted float settings on the Holley. I set my idle up to about 950 which is keeping it from stalling, I will take it and have the carb. dialed in by my mechanic. This is one of the situations where I would rather pay and have it done right.
