The IAC is located in the TB. Round metal case with a 4 wire connector going to it. Probably not a bad idea for a new one, anyhow. Its not real hard to replace. A stuck egr could also stop the engine from idling as well. As for the IAC, I had a car that had an IAC that was stuck. Didnt know any better at the time so I just kept my foot on the throttle when I put the clutch in.

???

So would that cause the engine to rev up and down also, cause it was doing that for a few months and then this started happening? Only by about 200 rev above normal at a stop light, rev up then settle back down, then rev up over and over.

if your letting it idle and it is reving up and down by itself it is probably the egr. this is simple to replace and any local autozone can print you out a step by step procedure. Also, if you believe this is not the problem, which i think it is, you might try an idleing sensor. there should be a specific one on your car that deals with idleing. it will be different then my iroc-z, but they control the same thing. ask your local dealership how to locate it and tell them the problem. your problem is one of these , but i would do the egr first.

What you're describing here is your engine trying to fail for some tuning or emissions problem and your IAC doing what it's designed to do and keep your car alive. My bet is that if you replace the IAC it will go back to it's sinusoidal revving pattern.

Sounds like a textbook case of a stuck/leaking egr. Just had that problem with the parents buick century. Had a sinusoidal idle and it wanted to die at stop lights. A large vacuum leak causing the MAF to under-register the airflow will also cause a similar effect. The engine will be lean and very uncontrollable from my experience.
