How Do I Check For a Faulty Distributor???

Is there a visual check that I can do, or do I need to do an electrical check. The reason I ask is because lately my park doesn't seem to be pulling hard as it used to , there have been a couple of times where it surprised me and threw me back in the seat a little. And I figured this is one area that I might check on.

get an ohm meter and check your wires and cap, or i have heard misting water out of a spray bottle over plug wires and cap at night and you might see arcs if they are bad?
