NEED MORE POWER

I was wondering if my engine would benfit from 1.6 rockers, I have 10.5:1 comp,
sportman 2 heads with a mild port job on the exhaust side, 750 demon carb, rpm intake, hedman hedders, comp cam exreme energy i think its #284 lift is .507in .510ex.
I was thinking of putting better valve springs in plus the 1.6 rollers.

Just got beat by a ****y guy in town with a 94 viper (not by much though maybe 1-2 cars, considering i have 2.73 in rear 3.23 going in tommorow until i get a set of 3.73)

I want to beat him good next time. The guy yelled at some little kids for asking him to spin his tires for them Quote "why don't you buy your $#%$#$# viper and wreck it's tires"

Other than those mods I plan on ditching the 3" single exhaust for dual 2 1/2" found some one who can do it. Anything else u guys can think of would be a great help. Thanks

Absolutely. Think about the relationship of head flow to valve action: what good does it do to have massively flowing ports in the heads, if you merely crack the valve at the end of them for a brief moment? It's just as much a mismatch to do that as it is to put huge valves and a gigantic cam in heads whose ports are like a drinking straw.

You have a large motor; it needs as much flow as it can get. My guess would be that yo could up your HP by 4-5% with that easy mod. Definitely upgrade the valves springs.

Thanks, I was just worried it might be to much lift. I no longer just want to beat that viper but kill it.

Yeah, that's a pretty s****y thing to say to somebody that's admiring your car, even if that's what you really think. I'm sure he hears that from people all the time, but that's still no excuse for being a ***** about it. He needs to be humiliated.

If you really want to beef up the valve train go for roller lifters and cam too, then you can get much faster ramp speeds with the same lift and duration which will also help air flow. Or you can get the meanest roller cam you can find.

Also keep an eye on your spring bind height. Your rockers might try to compress the spring farther than physically possible.

don't I need to machine the block to accept roller lifters?

No. For some decades, the rest of us have been using a system that is about 10,000 times simpler than the factory's nightmare hallucination of what a roller system could be like if designed by a committee of people with a vested interest in incompatibility and extra pieces. This is now humorously referred to as the "retrofit" roller system. It installs into any block with no machine work whatsoever required, other than what might be necessary with any high-lift cam. It uses link bars to connect the lifters for each cylinder in pairs, thus keeping them from rotating. To keep the cam from walking out the front of the block, it uses a "button", usually just a plastic block in the cheap version or a thrust bearing in the better versions, installed between the end of the cam in the center of the gear, and the timing cover. So simple, and nearly failure-proof, unlike the factory mess.

cool I'm going to my parts store for some gaskets tonight anyways so I'll price one out Can u recommend a good cam and lifter kit plus anything else I might need.
Don't know too much about roller cams. Would like one with more lift than the one I have know.
What are the advantages of a roller cam over flat tappet cams?

Get your heads fully ported. Those Darts don't flow too good out of the box.

Get a 3.73 gear plus the heads, 1.6 rockers and you should beat him.

What does your car run in the 1/4?

Last time I was there it ran a 12.8s at 112mph with a pair of slicks though. 60 foot time was like 2.6s
