Insurance for a pleasure vehicle?

I only drive my car about 1000 miles a year if that. When not in use it sits in my garage with an alarm activated. I did a search and found that some people use: http://www.americancollectorsins.com/index.htm

I got a quote of $168 per year with them. But they rejected me because I am 21 and they want atleast ten years driving experience.

Does anyone else know where I can get a cheap policy/classic car insurance since I only drive it 1000 miles or less a year? My record is 100% clean, not even a parking ticket. Progressive wants $633 for 6 months

I have Allstate and have my car listed as "pleasure". I pay less then $300 a year. I also have a few, uh, blemishes, on my record (just speeding).

If you're under 25 you really get jonesd. I owned a body shop when I was 23, it wa smy part time gig. I ran the insurance through the shop a a commercial rate and age never came up.

I'm paying $113/yr for full coverage on the '57. No mileage restrictions, but it is assumed the car will not be used on a regular basis (shhhh.... afterall, Bandimere is only 7 miles away...).

One big kicker - no drivers under age 25. Don't think that little proviso doesn't gall my 21-24 year old daughters.

GTA Matt, I don't see collision on your policy.....


Yah, that really suck for you young guys. I have american collectors on my Nova and now my Formula. Very reasonable for full coverage. I don't drive them except in the good weather, and I have daily driver cars.

I actually was turned down by Hagerty for my formula with the supercharger because it was not in their "formulary". Had no problems with American collectors, just has to be classified as modified (pay a bit more).

My nova costs me $106 yearly and $389 for the formula.
