How hard is it to remove a/c box

I am going to get rid of my a/c. I was going to buy the a/c delete pulley and a heater box from a non a/c car. How hard is it to remove the factory a/c box, does it just bolt to the firewall or do you have to remove hardware from behind or under the dash. If so, is it a real pain or not to bad. Thanks for all your help.

It's very straightforward, you just unbolt it from the outside after removing the a/c lines. Save the fan because you'll need it to go back in the non a/c box. also instead of trying to use the non-a/c controls inside the car and change virtually every friggin' thing there. Just use the surround panel from a non a/c car, (the a/c is not printed on it) and carefully remove the printed fascia from the a/c car, put them together and all of the controls work the same except that there is no a/c indication on the panel.

scroll down, you can't really see the panel that well but that's what I did and you can' ttell the diff.

There's about 2 or 3 bolts (maybe a couple of them are nuts) that go into the evap housing from the interior, at the bottom. They're right under the top edge of the carpet. Peel up the carpet and you'll see them.

On the engine compartment side of the firewall, all you have to take off are the LARGE screws, and there's not many of them. 5 or 6 maybe. Don't bother with any of the smaller ones. If they're smaller than 10mm, then they're not the ones you need to take out, you don't have to mess with them.

About 8 or 9 hardwares, total; and the whole evap housing comes off, as one giant piece. Every single bit of it comes off the firewall as one unit.... just like the factory assembled the car.

instead of peeling off the label on an a/c control switch, you can just unbolt the face plate from the controls and replace it with the non-a/c face plate. this is what i did on my 88 gta.

No ,they are sort of a one way installation, getting them off can be tough. Try gripping the metal part with needle nose pliers and then pulling on the plastic part. It won' t be pretty, but if your careful you can re use them.
