The Beast Thus Far... [Pictures]
Well, here she is so far. This started as a full blown V6 2.8L and now it has a 305SB with lots of goodies (My sig will tell all). I ripped EVERYTHING out of this car, even the gas tank. Started from scratch. All the wiring (couldnt use v6 harness anyway), everything.
I'm posting the pics on my progress so far. I have some questions too. My concern right now are the pulleys, the motor was from an 85 Z28 that had V-Belts (if i remember correctly), I cant seem to find any pulley sets that dont cost $250 (all billet, super high polish). I am just looking for a regular set of pulleys to run a serp belt setup.
Also, when I had the V6, I bought a new 120 amp alternator. It does not seem to fit right on this motor (it might be the crappy brackets i bought). What do you think?

Does the alt look normal? It doesnt travel very far, and it will only travel a small bit before hitting the pulley fan on the damn bracket.
The pics arent the best, I was low on battery power and the light was fading. But you can get the picture.

Looks like the same cheapie alt bracket I have on mine. They fit stock intakes fine, but for some reason on aftermarket intakes, the bolt hole isn't in exactly the same spot.
I ended up enlongating the bracket bolt hole so I could adjust it. Compare it to your stock intake and you'll see what I mean. Otherwise the alt ends up kinda "tilted" and it'll never hold a belt on.......if it's the same one I have.
Nice lookin engine BTW....

Killer looking engine I like the BLING BLING!
Your right the alt brackets do look out of place but summit sells some better looking and simple to use brackets and cheap also. I'm sure you have seen them on other engines its just a adjustable rod and polished piece that goes on the bottom. I would give you the part numbers but its late and I'm too lazy to get them for you right now! I'll find them for you tomorrow.

lol, thanks for the comments, i wasnt really trying to go for the bling, but since you cant buy anything without it being chromed or high polish, i was stuck. Right now, i just want to get it working so i can drive it.
Does anyone know where to get some serpentine belt pulley's? Thnx.

Those brackets bend for adjustment pretty easy use a rubber hammer and bang the crap out of it to make it work for now. Just kidding about bang the crap. They bend pretty easy. Also did you paint that motor/ If not its going to be a nice pretty rust color in about 200 miles. It looks really nice right now tho

those brackets are for the older style alts. were the two bolt holes are exactly 180* from each other. that alt appears to have the top bolt hole off to the side more. you have to get an older style alt. jegs sells a really nice 1 wire unit for around $80 for the one with the black finish. then you don't have the bling factor as much. as far as the serp belt. well, if i had the $120 for the bbk underdrive pulleys, i'd just give you mine, but i don't so i think i'll hold on to them for a while. but what you need to do is look for the 85-87 style pulleys, which is what i am running. they look like this:

i have the march alt. bracket in that pic. the little turnbuckle thing stripped so now i have the large top piece back on but i still have the billet bottom piece (which was the piece i really needed anyway, the stocker stamped steel pieces flexed so much that the belt would jump)

which bbk set? I have $120 for them. What is the part #? I'm having a hell of a time with getting pulley's, I dont remember what setup the motor origianlly came with, v-belt or serp and dealership cant tell me, they have a million diff setups. Plus i woudl like a set of underdrive pulleys for some added power.
