Turning air cleaner lid upside down ???

I was going out for breakfast with some of my friends and one of my friends was saying how hes cuz told him to turn his air cleaner lid upside down and it'll get more air. So here tried it on my truck.. seemed nice.. But I was wondering if I did that on mine on my LO3 if it would help it or hurt it.. Any1 every hear of doing this ?

By turning the lid upsidedown, just make sure it still seals completely around your filter. You can see a little gain because this now allows more air to enter. Intead of the air needed to go through the small intake ear off the main peace, it is now similer to an open element air cleaner. In my opinion, this can have a down side because of hot air, plus, I think the gains may be more exagurated, because now it "sounds" like it works better.

Most of the time, it hurts more than it helps...

Look at the lid. Notice that the place where the wingnut goes is higher than the ring where it seals to the filter. Now think how much closer to the air horn it's going to be when you turn it upside down.

It will probably make your car go slower. The extra noise usually recalibrates your butt dyno by increasing the blood pressure in your male member. The only time it helps is if you have a nest of mice living in your air cleaner's snorkel or something like that.

I did it and used a taller K&N air filter at the same time. That kept the lid away from the air horn of the TB.

One guy on here did a chassis dyno pull fore & aft using the same paper filter. He said it picked up 6hp on his L03 after he did it. It's not exactly SOTP improvement, but 6hp is 6hp. Can't knock that.
