car will not start but the electronics will come on. what should i do?

ok i put in my key and turn the key and nothing happens hold it there for a minit and it starts then the next time i try to start my car it will start right up. then i go out the next day to go to work. it takes for ever to get started i had to turn my key on and off like 5 times. then it starts but then i get out of work and well i have to call a tow truck because my car would not start. all of the electronics work power windows locks CD player. the starter does not ingage anyone have any ineas on what i should do? thanks

It sounds like aground problem. Check the ground wire on battery, grond to engine and then check the pos lead to starter. Make sure they dont have corrosion on them

sound avice from 84 Restore. To add to it, have your battery checked at the local NAPA/AutoZone/etc...

I had the same problem for a while...Turns out it was a bad ingition cylinder.$320 at Pontiac for a new one.

Sounds exactly like what happens when my neutral-safety switch starts acting up. Mines a 5-speed though, so it probably doesn't apply to an auto, since my N-safety is on the clutch pedal.

Its something to check though.

well thanks for all the help! well i got a long stick after work and tapped on the stater i wish i had that stick befor i called the tow truck well it started i guess i got to get a new starter is the starter hard to replace?

To throw one more thing out... Have VATS still enabled? Is the security light coming on when this happens?
