Starter Brace/ Bracket

My starter doesn't always crank but you can hear the soleniod when the key is turned. After turning the key a few times rapidly it starts. The starter was replaced last year hoping to fix the problem. I have noticed that when it does this if pressure is put on the end of the starter (not the nose) it starts right up. In the Chilton's manual (page 3-7) I can see a brace/ bracket on that part or the starter that I dont have nor do I see were it bolts to on the block. Anyone got a pic of were it bolts to? Do you guys think this may be the problem? I have pulling my hair out sence I bought the car and want it fixed.

Sounds like the 2 long screws holding the start together, are loose. Or, if that doesn't fix it, the bushings are worn, and the armature is touching the pole pieces; in which case you just need a new starter.

The brace is a good idea though. It bolts from a bolt hole in the block right below the head deck, to one of the long screws in the starter.
