If you managed to balance it, you'd have what's popularly known as a 377.

A 383 is a bored and stroked 350. A 350 block with a 400 crank and an overbore.

400 block std bore (4.125") w/ 305-350 stroke crank (3.48") = 372

same thing, .030" over = 377

You need spacer bearings, or bearing spacers

Little point in spending extra money to downgrade a motor

Wht use would a 377 have? It would hvae less stroke, so it could rev higher, right (or some such nonsense) ? Doesn't torque come from stroke? Sounds like it would be a gelding after it got de-stroked.

The destroked 377's are hi reving motors. They make great top end power. Most i have seen were spinning to the 8K range.

torque comes from cylinder pressure, and the easiest way to influance torque is with cubic inches. you normally dont see more than 60-70 pound feet of torque per liter(unless its a supercharged application). 70 pound feet of torque per liter is an increditable amount of torque. my l98 tpi motor make 372 pound feet of torque at the wheels at 2250rpm. that is almost a rediculous(it is rediclous because you dont need that much torque at that low of an rpm) amount of torque for a motor as small as mine to make with stock heads and bore/stroke/comp. i ask someone to just show me how a car is a faster car through the 1/4 mile by adding torque, without adding weight. add 50lbs of torque to a car and it will accelerate just as quickly(assuming the car had sufficent torque to move the car in the first place). you dont need more torque, you just need a big enough converter. id gladly trade 50lbs of tq for 50hp, then my car would not break rearends with the consistancy it has for the past 2 years, and be faster too.
