Engine failed emmissions for the 3rd time *Burning gas even richer

Me and my friend set the timing better this weekend and I sent the camaro into emmissions and it failed emmissions worse than before... The first time the HydroCarbons were buring at 6000. I dont wanna even know what there burning at now.... The car is buring the gas even richer what!!!!????

I have code 36; I checked the MAF firewall relay-sensors and they look good... I checked the Maf Sensor and it looks fine

How is it possible that the gas would burn richer than before after we pretty much fixed the timing???

Timing doesn't affect mixture, or HC readings, very much. People ascribe way too many magical properties to it. If it's at or near factory specs, leave it alone.

Sounds to me like you're getting too much fuel into it. Real simple deal here.

Tried a new O2 sensor? Checked the fuel pressure? Got any leaky injectors?

It could also be a cylinder that's not running, which would then be dumping raw fuel into the exhaust; or severe oil burning.

Yes I replaced the O2 sensor when I dropped the other motor in.
I have not done a fuel pressure check *I have no clue how to do that* It could be a leaky injector? How do I check for a leaky injector?
The engine fires properly sounds great and there are no abnormal shakes; so I guess its safe to rule out the cylinder not running?

-- I always see my gas and oil gauges jumpn up n down.
While pressing the gas pedal and when Im sitting still.

And Thank you so much for the quick reply RB83L69... im about to loose my job and carreer over this car

The mechanic tell me that the cars vacume lines are hooked up wrong... could this fit into this equation?

VACUUM

My evap canister is missing a hose, i think that may be one of my problems. Maybe yours is something that simple. I was told to ckeck my injectors and fuel pressure. WHen i get off for chow tomorrow I am checking that.

Fuel pressure = fuel pressure gauge (around $15 at AutoZone)

Injector leakage = turn the key on, see that the FP comes up to 43 or 45 or so, turn the key off, watch the pressure; it shouldn't drop more than a psi per hour or so. Preferably less. If it drops faster than that, you most likely have a leaky injector. If so, take the fuel rails out, with the injectors in them; hook them up to the fuel lines; turn the key on, then back off; see which one(s) drip(s). That's the bad one(s).

This is not rocket science. It's just an old batch-fire fuel injection from deep in the Stone Age. As my daughter says (she learned this from when we lived in So. Cal.), "It's so 20th Century". Pretty easy stuff.

Where do you hook the fuel pressure gauge up to?

Schrader valve on the fuel rail; looks like on a wheel where you put air in the tire

Would It be ok to leave it there forever

Engine is a 305 truck engine/swapped TPI and all; Will I have to install a fuel pressure regulator on to the engine or will it have one on the TPI?
