XE268 Cam in stock 305 = fine???

I want to put a XE268 cam into my LG4 motor. I know I have to change the valve springs to suit the cam, but apart from that will it work fine in my otherwise stock LG4 motor?
I am not trying to get the most power out of this motor now, I just want to put it in while my water pump and radiator are out of the car, until I get the vortecs. (have a T-5 so dont need a hi stall )

Thanks!

If you're going to get some vortecs, and a exhaust system amd maybe an intake for it, it should work good.

Go get the latest CHP magazine. They are putting a new cam in a LG4 and they went pretty mild. They made a good point that the 305 lacks in low RPM torque as it is. Going with a too aggressive cam will just add to that problem. They went roller, but the article posts the specs of the cam that may help you.

I have that cam in my 350. To make it work right you'll definitely need a really free flowing exhaust, torque converter and gears. I don't remember the compression of a LG4 but you'll probably need more. If you do use your stock heads for a while before the vortecs get a thinner head gasket. I don't think that it will be to radical if you set it up right.

Remember the torque converter. That is the last thing that I did and it should have been the first thing I did when I did the vortec head and XE268 swap. The stock one just didn't like the bigger cam.

94-6spd, he does not need a new torque converter, as he has stated that he has a manual transmission. with an auto he would with a more powerful engine, but he has a t-5 tranny.
