Car stalls out after battery disconnected/alternator changed
My '92 'bird has a quirk that I can't figure out. Whenever I disconnect/reconnect the battery and take her out for a drive, when I slow down, the RPMs' drop and she stalls sometimes. Now when I slow down I have to throttle her a bit while braking so she doesn't choke out on me. This happened a couple years ago when I changed the battery, and most recently when I put in a new alternator. After about a month or so the prob goes away and she returns to normal. Could there be carbon buildup that's causing this, or what?
Thanks for the help.

my car does the same thing. When you disconnect/reconnect the battery it resesets the computer it will take a few weeks for the computer to relearn everything.

What causes this? It sucks because, I was making a turn the other day and it stalled out on me, so I lost power steering. Fortunately there wasn't a car in the other lane.

it should have relearned by the time you had 50 miles of driving.
try this, start it up, step on the brakes & put it in reverse, hold the rpm up a little if you have to, 1000 rpm or so should be enough, slowly let up on the gas petal until you are completely off of it, let it idle like that for about 5 minutes.

It's not the battery terminals, they're clean. The problem will eventually go away but it takes weeks, or maybe a month. I just makes it so that I can't disconnect the battery, or I'll run into the same problem again. I need to figure out why it does in the first place, so I can remedy the problem. Thanks for the input gents.
