My car wont start!!!

This makes no sense. Wednesday morning i am driving my car and it is running great, just like every other day. About 5 hours later, i try and turn the car on, and it dont start. I know the battery is not dead. I am thinking the starter or spark plug, i have no idea. I am not smart at all when it comes to cars, but i want to learn

Can someone please tell me what i can look for or if anyone had teh same problem. Thx for all your help.

Always try searching the archives first if you can for the problem your having. First, does it crank? As in try to start at all or do you turn the key and get NOTHING, if nothing, do you get a security light coming on? if you do, then you could have a VATS problem. If the car is cranking as in trying to start you will want to check for fuel pressure and spark, you will need both of those before it will even think about running.

The car definetly cranks. It sounds as if it is just about to start, but doesnt, and if i hold the key turned it keeps trying to turn on, but doesnt.

How would i check for a spark, or where?? and the feul pressure??

The cost to fix it really depends on what's wrong with it and how long it takes them to find the problem. First check to see if you have spark. This is really easy. Pull one of the spark plug wires off the spark plug (spark plugs are right below the exhaust manifold, if this helps). Then hold the plug wire boot about a 1/4 inch away from a good ground, like the exhaust manifold. Have someone crank the engine. If you see a spark jumping between the wire and the ground then you have spark. Be careful not to get zapped though; I've heard it hurts. Then tell us what you get.

since yer already gonna get it towed, i might as well not go into why the car does not start. instead, when my car didnt start and i didnt have the time to check everything with my limited tool supplies and what not, i had it towed to the dealer for a diagnostic. it took about 90-120 mins for them to tell me what the problem was-$120. mine was a fuel pump problem, there was no fuel pressure. since mine is carb'd the total cost was $380 or so. but i just bought a delco pump and installed it myself. 380 is insane for a pump and install. since yers in TPI, the pump is in the tank, so they have to drop it and thats about $500 or so.

hope its not the pump.

Getting shocked by a 30,000 volt distributor engine isn't that bad when you compare it to getting shocked by an engine with Distributor-less ignition......you'll end up in the hospital.
