Engine part recomendations
I am going to be building a 350 to replace my 305. There is nothing wrong with the 305, it has actually been quite a performer. But I want at least 12 second time slips.
I have a 2 bolt 89 Vette block that I am going to build. It will stay at the standard bore and stock crank. I am getting a set of Iron L98 heads that I will be porting. I am trying to decide on what type of pistons and rods I should use.
I am also going to be shooting a 150hp shot of nitrous at it. I have a nitrous mastermind to soften the hit. I am probably only going to spray at the strip which would be at most 5 times a year.
I am trying to get to 350-400 horsepower before the spray.
I would like to run the Hot cam, but I heard that the stock L98 heads can't take the lift.
I would appreciate any input or ideas.

2-bolt vette block? I don't think this is right. I thought all vette L98s were 4 bolt mains. I could be wrong, and probably am, but hey.
It shouldn't cost more than $200 to get your heads to where they need to be to support a high lift cam.

What all needs to be done to the heads?
Bigger spring pockets, cut down the guides..
I also heard about using different valve locks and shimming the springs to gain clearance.

Sorry not a vette engine, you were lied to. Not like it matters worth a **** if the block cam from a vette anyway. A block or core is pretty much a block or core.

I just spent the last 4 months rebuilding my 350 L98 in my IROC. Ill just give you a list of what ive done, havent got it running yet, still have to get short spark plugs and fix some vacuum lines. So here goes:
I had the block bored .30 over, the crank turned and polished, forged speedpro pistons, new rods, new lifters, engine was balanced out.
Heads: I had them milled with a tri angle valve job, might get them ported later on down the road, new valves and springs, 1.6 narrow roller rockers for the centerbolt valve covers.
I bought the LT4 Hotcam for my engine also, suppose to work for the L98 with some modifications to the dowell end of it, think its a .525/.525 with the 1.6 rockers.
Bout it really, got headers, true double roller timing chain, taylor wires, K&N filters. Hope this might help you out some, not real sure what my HP numbers will be as of yet, but hope to find out soon.

They are just new stock rods, I talked with the guy at the machine shop and he said with my setup I wouldnt need anything extravagant. As far as head mods for the Cam, I talked to the tech guy at Summit and he asked around and said that the cam should work for a stock L98 with stock heads. How much value to put into that, I dont know, the only thing he said had to be modified was the dowell end of the camshaft to three tenths of an inch, or the same length as the stock camshaft. If you do order it, dont go through GMpartsdirect.com, I ordered one from them and due to crappy shipping and handling the camshaft fell out of the tube and was damaged and Ive been playing hell with them for a month trying to get it returned and get my money back since I bought one from Summit. Hope that helps ya some, sorry I don't know for sure how it works with the heads, but hopefully Ill know this week when I get the new plugs and crank it up.
