Is there an L69 cam equivalent???
Hello all. I am finishing up the new 305 for my 84 TA. Everything for it is correct except for the cam. GM discontinued the factory L69 cam. I was just wondering if the aftermarket made a cam that was very close if not a little better than the factory L69 grind? The only one I know of is the Comp XE256. Id just like to know before I go and buy it. And yes, i am keeping all the stock CCC setup and emissions equipment because it has to go through emisions....and honestly, to me it looks better with all the facory stuff. Anyway, can someone help me out on the cam? Thanks in advance.

GM replacement:
Camshaft Kit # 12353917, 204/214 - .420/.442 - 112 CL

Personally I'de go with # 12353918, 214/224 - .442/.465 - 112 CL.

Both made for GM by Crane Cams.
If you want cheaper you could go with the summit 1102 for the factory spec 204/214 , or the 1103 for the 214/224.

Don't go with any of those old antiquated lobe designs, they all suck. Go with the Comp Extreme line, the XE256 will do good or the XE262 will be really good if this is a L69 car.

Yes, it is an L69 car. And I will be keeping my 2500 converter. Everythnig else will be stock however...(exhaust, carb, etc).

I would use the 330HP-350 HO crate engine cam. I have seen them pull-out on Ebay for almost nothing. People will buy the engine, pull the cam out, and stab a hotter one in there. I saw Car Crafts 350 HO build were that cam was only a few numbers off from a comp Xtreme energy 268.

Believe me, I appreciate all the input. But I was looking for something more along the lines of something a little more mild. Especially in an otherwise stock 305, Id like to keep it as stock as possible. But am I correct in assuming that the XE256 would be a good, emissions legal cam for an L69/auto combo with a 2500 stall?

The GMPP 350 cam that I mentioned isn't that much different than stock and you can get them cheap. They still idle with llots of vacuum, have decent torque, and make moderate horsepower too. It would run great in a L69 package. That is what is in my 305 TBI now.
