No power in CL, when ECM enters BLM it relearns itself to performs WORSE! HELP!!
For a while there I had accepted the fact that my car was slow, but the 13 MPG bothered me... well today (and other times too) the car sat all day and when I started it and pushed the pedal back, it pushed me to the seat! The TR was great and it had power.. the power I would expect... and then it warmed up, and turned into the sloppy POS it is...
Also, when I reset the ECM and start it, it'll PURR! Idles great, accelerates real smooth, ect. And then I shut it off, start it and it'll be back to it's normal self... Yes I know I'm 'learning' the computer correctly... Varied driving, no WOT, ect...
I thought the low gas milage was a weak spark because the plugs are fouled. I don't think the mix is off because when started in FDM the light stayed on as much as it stayed off (in the 3 second cycle of time) except for WOT it stayed on (WOT enrichment mode?) Unless of course the O2 sensor thinks the mix is right, but it's brain is messed... so it tells the ECM it's right but in reality it's off... the O2 is new, however 2 bottles or injector cleaner have gone through, as well as a two week long anti-freeze leak right on it... I'd like to keep thinking the O2 is good because the threads are stripped and it's welded in there, I'd need to take it back into the shop to get it fixed. And that costs $$ which I don't have.
So with all that info... what kind of guesses can you make? As always, thanks for your help.

I don't have an answer to your q, but I can commiserate. My car runs faster with the MAF disconnected. But I can't stand that SES light, so I keep the maf hooked up....

than normal. We need some more info...Do you have access to a scan tool? Sounds like with a scan the problem should jump right out at you. Any codes set? If the injectors are sticking open it would pour fuel in and account for the poor mileage-also that would take out the O2 sensor and the cat; but that rich or the O2 sensor fried it should set a code. Does the check engine light ever come on? Is it burned out?

This is on the funny/ironic side... the only code I got was a lean O2... I only got this code while running injector cleaner. (The STP Black bottle)
No I don't have access to a scan tool... only a paperclip.
Here is what I'm thinking;
1) Either bad computer or ignition module
or
2) Bad ignition coil and bad O2 sensor. (or possibly other bad sensors...
So with that info, can you figure anything else out? The power change between open loop and closed loop is so dramatic, I enjoy driving the car in open loop, but I don't want to beat on a cold engine and put unneccary wear on it...

TTT again. C'mon, I know other people have had this problem, but the posts in the archives never came to a conclusion.

Yes a bad O2 sensor could do it- however a bad ignition coil would effect it the same in open loop. Sorry, but we really need some scan data! An auto x-ray 240 costs about 200.00 with a cable- I know its not change but it is invaluable for any trouble shooting; and it's cheaper than diacom. If you lived near southern calif. I'd say bring it by-I'd be more than willing to scan it with diacom!
