Car ran fine, than almost quit while driving.
Just need to get some ideas to start with. First of all the car has been running fine for a long time, then yesterday I leave my house and drive down to the stop light to get on the highway(not even a mile from my house). So i turn onto the highway and then all the sudden the car wouldn't go at all. I was at about 30 miles an hour and it wouldn't go any higher, it wouldn't rev good or anything. i tried revving high a couple times and it just made it shake a little bit. I put it in neutral and didn't see anydifference at all. So i put it back in drive and revved it a couple times and then all of a sudden it kicked in and i took off. It ran fine the rest of the day. drove it about 50 miles w/out a problem. Then today i get in it to go to work and i don't even make it to the stoplight and it starts doing it again. I take a side road to see if it will kick out of it again but it wouldn't so i had to take it back home. Later tonight i checked for codes and couldn't get any. I don't really understand it. It has fairly new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. All the injectors are working, put a new fuel filter on when i did everything else. The only thing i could think of doing was check all the plug wires. I pulled each one off the cap and started the car. It seemed like most of the ones on the drivers side made a difference, but the ones on the passenger side didn't make it run any diferrent. They were all gapped properly and they are ac delco plugs and wires. Don't know if that helps any at all. I haven't check the fuel pressure. truthfully i don't know how. any help would be appreciated.
thanks for your time,
Brady

just to add....whenever you start it up, it doesn't idle at any number, it goes down then back, then up and backit stays lower than 1000 rpm most of the time. Any help would be appreciated, i really don't have the money to take it to a mechanic and i really want to do everything i possibly can before i have to

interesting that its not throwing any codes. The closest thing that I had happen to what your describing was when my tps sensor took a dump. If you change it out make sure to adjust it correctly. Theres a tech article about it if you need some more info. You already checked the my first suggestion. Might want to also check and see what your fuel pressure is at, that could be a problem too. Thats all I can think of for now, try those and we'll see what happens.

well i still haven' figured this out.... I've been really busy lately and haven't had hardly anytime to mess w/ it. I was going to mess w/ it the other day and pulled it into the garage, then i didn't even get a chance to work on it. So later i pulled it back onto the street. So i put it in reverse and backed out of the garage. I have a steep driveway so i just let it slowly roll down to the bottom then put it back into reverse and once i put it into gear it died. It did the same thing like like 3-4 times. It would run in park, not good but would still run. I finally had to almost put it to the floor to keep it running. Hopefully i can work on it today and test the fuel pressure. Just wondering if anyone else thinks it's the fuel pump. Thanks for your time,
Brady

Ok, it's been forever but i've finally had a chance to check some stuff out. I got a guage on and it read 39-40 which i think is about right, didn't drop off or anything so that was good. So i just went ahead and changed the spark plug wires and put them in heat wrap type stuff cause i had arcing problems in the past and i didn't know if this was part of the problem or not. so i replaced them and nothing has changed. I'm not really sure what the next step would be. A friend of mine said that i should change the fuel filter again. Cause if you ever run really low on gas, the junk in the bottom of your tank can be taken in and clog up the fuel filter. I have come very close to running out of gas about 2 times so thats the only thing i can think of doing. Any help would be appreciated. thanks,
Brady

been reading
I've been reading some other threads and some people have been having the same problems as me and they traced it to a distributor. Does anyone else think this could be the problem. The cap and everything is tight & isn't loose. I'm planning on trying that next, so does anyone know a good one to get?
thanks

a bad maf can do similar things but, I would check your fuel psi again. watch under load or even better while it is acting up

it is always acting up. it won't run right at all. and the maf would throw a code which i'm not getting any soo...all i'm getting is code 12 which is normal. except i was reading another thread earlier and it said that code 12 can also mean a distributor problem so thats what i was sort of leaning to. thanks though
