car wont start...

as title...car wont start. Heres what happens...

I go to start the car and it does nothing no clicking just nothing. New alternator, starter, and battery test fine. Headlights and all accessories work also. I can hear the fuel pump priming also so that works. Its like this happens randomly...

This is the 2nd time its happened and i left my car at my work i pushed that **** like a 1/4 mile...thats no fun by the way.

1st time it happened it wouldnt start about 10 mins later when i asked someone from work who was not a mechanic or anything they just came out and tried, poped the key in and it started.

I tried almost everything i could to start it on the site...tried putting in and out of gear, starting it in other gears to see maybe a shift linkage problem. no anti-theft in the car. Im clueless

Im going back to my work in the morning to see if it will start up and ill let you guys know, if not hopefully ill have a reply from you guys or one of the mechanics at my work can check it out.

Thanks, Steve

if it doesn't have VATS which is odd for a 92, but if everything else works i would say check your fuses as a first precaution.
Then recheck your starter, maybe you missed a wire putting it back on. Then the ignition switch, not the lock cylinder. The switch on top of the column. Maybe the switch went bad or maybe the rod that pushes the switch fell out. don't ask my 88 did it at one time. That's all i can think of. Hopefully it would be of some help.

I as the same problem with my car when i first bought it, the car would die at random times, wouldn't start up right after, and after some one comes looking at it and trys to start it up, it starts right up, and strangly enough it was a vacuum leak, i dunno how old your vacuum lines are but i would check them first, i dont know if this is any help at all but, it worked for me, it might work for you.

im about to head over to my work once my ride gets here...watch it start right up thats gonna suck cause if it dies again some random place im f-ed...i know if it starts theres no way to really diagnose the problem so well see...

Nothing tells me the car has VATS so i dont think it does.

Starter has been in for over 7 months so i dont think it would be a wire...

ill recheck it anyway make sure its grounded correctly and what not.

there's no chip in the key? I'm pretty sure all 91-92's had it. Maybe someone changed the lock cylinder and put a custom chip in to delete it. All it is, is a resistor in the key.

ya it has a chip in the key...

thats the VATS?

vehicle anti theft system? thought that just meant a car alarm...maybe little confused.

oh ya and car started right up this morning...pretty wack huh?

Could it be a starter...? I mean there is NO clicking sound but could that still be a possibility?

Did you check your vacume lines, even though it sounds like it might not be related, for some weird, and crazy reason vacume leaks were the cause of most of my problems. again i suggest you check all your rubber and plastic vacume lines.

If the starter solenoid is sticking you won't hear any click.

but

If I understand VATS correctly it disables the starter. Something I read in another post, clean the resistor in the key, if the contact area is dirty might change the resistance of the key pellet and car won't start. Pellet could be worn down also.

another post with vats wiring diagram
