very confused, Alt wiring..HELP!!!

The wire that runs off the alternator that charges the battery, goes near where the battery is on the passenger side of the car, and into this black cylinder. Now that little black cylinder has two other wires that also plug into it, then come out into a weather pack connector, whos wiring then dissapears into the wiring harness.

What are these two little wires that go into that piece? I have a brand new wire to run from the alt to the starter but it would bypass those two little wires.

If its like my car, the thin red one is a fusible link that runs to the fans. Not sure of the other though.

The other one is most likely the ECM fulltime power feed, was the case on my '88 wiring harness.

Well i guess that rules out just driving my car to the shop without the wire connected to anything.

Okay guys how am i going to do this. I have an 8 gauge wire that runs from my alternator to the back of the starter. How am i going to splice those two wires into it. I cant even visualize what kind of connector to use and the factory one, well i honestly dont even know how they assemble that weird looking thing

Just go get a terminal post for your battery. If its top mount its easy. If its side you may need to search a bit. Its basically one big bolt with a clamp on it (similar to a top terminal battery's connector). Just strip wires, insert, tighten screws down.

how in the world would that work. First of all my battery is in the trunk. Second of all i would think that'd be too much power going through those wires?

Regardless all i need is a method to splice those two wires into the battery charging wire from the alt. I guess ill figure out something eventually. It's just the factory connector type thing (its this black cylinder about 1 1/2" long) i honestly have no idea how they even connected the wires through.

Sorry, my mind reading abilities aren't working today. If we don't know where your connections are moved to/ why you are putting in new wires then we can't really help.

Didnt mean it like that man. This is such a stupid little thing and its causing me so much stress.

Simply put
Battery is in the trunk
Have 8 gauge wire with connectors on it to run from the alternator post to the back of the starter. And the stock wire from the alternator post to the battery wire has two other wires spliced into it by some rediculous cylindrical connector that i fail to understand how is even used in the first place. And i am resisting the urge to strip open my 8 gauge wire, wrap the other two wires around it and solder it all together, then wrap it in electrical tape. I just dont know how in the hell to splice those two wires into the 8 gauge wire properly.

Add a fusible link for each of the two feeds at your starter's big pole which has batt positive at it anyway, GM has at least two there already.

Then extend the wires from their original location at the stock battery location to the fusible links you added, and you're in business.
