New valve cover problem

I bought aftermarket valve covers and the breather hole on the passenger side is massive. I had to rig up something with a large Ford PCV grommet. Anyway, the hole is about 1.5" across and I need to keep it from falling apart again.

1. Does it just take filtered air from the intake? If so I plan on plugging the intake pipe and getting one of those breathers I see all the time.

2. If I need a breather, did anyone have a valve cover like mine? I can't get any info on them, got them from Ebay, and I want to get the right size breather.

Please help, my car fell apart this week and I have about 10 projects going on right now!!

My valve covers have a similiar hole. It is designed for a stopper. You know, one of those caps that says "OIL" on it. (I'm not trying to be sarcastic). I had the same problem trying to get my breather to stay in. I nabbed a stopper from an old van instead. You can purchase a properly sized grommet adapter for the hole though, that would accept the smaller breather tubes. I'll post a pic of one when I get home.

Hmmm. Would using a breather on a TPI make sense? I don't know much about TPI engines but I believe it just needs filtered air. I wonder if anyone has part numbers that fit? I'll just order a few grommets and see what happens.

Its always best to run a pcv valve and breather. Of course on opposite sides.

My question is does it matter if I have the stock hose coming off of the intake or if I have a breather valve?

On a TPI car it might, if it expects to meter air coming in through the PCV.

PCV is on drivers side. I'm talking passenger side. I'm leaving the PCV in where it is. I'm talking about the passenger side valve cover has a hose running straight to where the intake meets the plenum.

I'd sort of like to know if that's okay or not too. The hose that went into mine didn't fit the aftermarket valve covers at all, it didn't even like reach correctly, so I'm running PCV on one side and a breather on the other with the throttle body plugged where the hose came from. It seems to be working fine so far, but I am curious if it's okay or not.

The PCV system draws filtered air through that hose to evacuate the crankcase. Normally this air is metered through the MAF. If you put a breather in, you'll be allowing unmetered air to enter the system. Whether or not it makes any real difference I don't know.

I think the amount of air pulled for combustion compared to the amount for crankcase ventilation is next to nothing, but I'm not really the person to ask. FWIW my brother had a breather and I plugged the old hole so we'll see what happens.
