help, car just stopped while driving.
I was about 2km from home, driving pretty hard, and the car just dies, lost the power steering and almost crashed.
And it wont start again, i cant hear the buzz of the fuel pump when i turn the power on. Im pretty sure its something to do with the fuel pump, because sometimes the engine will start for a second and then just splutter and die like its got no fuel. And like i said, no buzzing from the fuel pump.
The RACQ service guy checked the battery and the fuses and said thats all fine. Then he towed it home for free
The last few weeks, ive noticed when im driving hard the 'check engine' light has come on for 10 seconds or so, and today when the car died i also noticed the check engine light was on. Is there something to do with the fuel pump that could trigger the check engine light to come on.
What do u guys think? Is it cheap to replace the fuel pump, or could it be something electrical. Where abouts is the fuel pump located.
85 iroc, any help greatly appreciated. The car is sitting in my front yard and i need it fixed fast.

Take out a paper clip, bend it into the "U" formation and bridge the ALDL and pull the trouble codes. That will give you a starting point.
To get the trouble codes, find your ALDL port (down by the knee bolster, driver side) and look at the top row of "ports." the two on the far right are the ones you will be 'bridging' with your paper clip ends. Insert one end of the paper clip into the "A" port and one into the "B." Once they are in, turn the key to the on position, without starting, and look at the SES light. It will blink the codes (*blink* -pause- *blink blink* represents the "12" code, etc). It will blink code 12 3 times. After that it will spit out your actual trouble codes.
Cross reference with this list (courtesty of Vader): http://216.121.161.76/files/GMError.pdf
Report with findings.

fuel pressure guage? shows zero.
is the ALDL a 12pin port? But only has about 7/12 pieces of metal in the ports.
Cuz that all i can see on the drivers side, except for the fuse box. MY car has been RHD converted so things might be a bit different.
And where is the ses light?

22- Fuel cutoff relay circuit - open or shorted to ground
that sounds what like what i got. Any ideas?
I've unplugged the short pieces of sealed of wire that goes from the fuel pump into the port behind the seats. One wire looks like the ground, one is probably the power and the other might be a remote turn on?
Well i took 2 direct wires from the positive from the battery and put them into the power and remote turn on, and i took 1 direct wire to the negative on the battery and put it into the ground. Theoretically the fuel pump should continously go?
The fuel pump made a noise for a second and then did nothing, i used a multimeter and checked that i was getting 12 volts into the plug. So the problem is somewhere between that 12 inches of sealed wire that comes with the fuel pump and the fuel pump itself. Is there anything inside the fuel pump that may have fried? Or could it be the actual connections right on top of the fuel pump.

and i checked all fluids in engine etc, everything was fine.
Are you saying you're going to check the voltage to your fuel pump everytime the ses light comes on?
