Same thing happened to me its the fuel pump relay most likely replace it before your pump goes out. I blew it off cause it still started and myfuel pump went out and had to replace both!

FP relay should be on the drivers side of the firewall.

Leaky injectors would be my first guess, check the fuel pressure and see if it holds. Hope this helps.

My car does the same thing if it is hot out.

If its decent out, or cool, the car starts in a second.

how do you check for fuel pressure? i think it's fuel related. it is a tbi engine, and no fuel comes out at first onto the plates. finally when it does come it, it starts.

Sounds like your injectors are leaking. Start up the car, then turn it off. Take your air filter and housing off and put a cloth under the injectors, and check back in half an hour to see if the cloth has fuel on it. If so, its time to replace those injectors.

this is how it all started. one day a few months ago i got my oil changed and from there i drove 2 blocks down the road to a radiator shop to have my coolant fan looked at. turns out, the guy was testing the wrong relay. instead of checking the fan relay, he tested the fuel pump relay. and for a temp solution that i still have, he grounded my fan relay so that the fan runs all the time when the car is on. and when i was leaving the radiator shop it started right then and there. could this be related at all? i'll try the fuel injector thing as well. thank you for the responses guys.

could the fuel injectors just need a good cleaning? i did the paper towl thing to check for leakage, but they didn't leak at all. could they just be really dirty to the point normal fuel injector cleaner isn't good enough? please respond.

The hard starting thing started when your mechanic grounded a wire and tested a relay?

Maybe this guy fried your fuel pump relay. The backup is the oil pressure switch, which closes at about 4PSI. That would explain the long cranking. Is the problem still present if you do a startup AFTER the engine has warmed up? The relay is only like $20. It couldnt hurt to replace it.

yes, it started the first time i tried to start it right after he grounded that relay and tested the other relay which was the wrong one. if i start it, and let it run for a sec, turn if off and crank it again, it WILL start back right back up, but if it's sitting for a good bit, and i try to start it, it doen's start right away. i still think it's a fuel/electrical prob as to where the fuel isn't comming out right away. i notice once the oil pressure gets up to about 30, i'll start. i put a new fuel relay on and it's still not helping, unless the new relay is bad as well. maybe i should take it back for another one just for the hell of it.

is there anyway to check to see if the relay is bad or not, besides buying a new one? also, the fan relay and the fuel pump relay are the same type of relays right? could i just take my fan relay off since i know that works to try it on the fuel relay? thank you.

Pull out your ignition module and go test it at a parts place.
