Car keeps dieing
Ok, I have a 1989 IROC with a 350 in it and the HSR. Ive had the HSR installed professional for about 3-4 weeks. The other day my car starting doing something wierd. Everytime i got on the gas it acted like it wanted to hesitate. So i took it straight home and tried to see if we could figure out what it was. Well i didnt really worry about it that night. The next morning i get up to go to work and i start the car, it starts then after the rpms start to drop so it can idle it just dies. The rpms wouldnt even stay up for more then a couple seconds. Anyone have any ideas? Even when i hit the gas to try to make it stay running, like i said the gas wants to hesitate. Thanks for your help in advance!

Did you properly set the idle air control (IAC)? How's your TPS voltage?
Vader has a great write-up on those things; do a search and you should find it.
Check the fuel pressure too, and make sure there aren't any leaks around the regulator and fuel rail.

Thanks for the advice but i finally got it fixed. It was the MAF sensor. :/ I still have a problem of my idle wanting to drop below 700rpms. I'm going to see what i can do with the idle air control or the actual idle control itself.

I'm still getting a check engine light if i drive it for about 15 minutes or so. Anyone have an idea? It didnt start doing it until i installed the new MAF sensor. And also anyone explain to me how to change the IAC. Thanks!

What code are you getting?
Are you looking to change the IAC or merely make sure it's adjusted properly? There's really no reason to buy a new one if it's working; try to adjust it first. When I replaced mine, I found it easiest to remove the throttle body from the plenum and use a large socket to unscrew the IAC motor.

I am not sure HOW to adjust it. That is what i was needing to know. And that is the other problem, i cannot check what code i am getting because for some VERY odd reason nobody can find the ALDL. It is not under the dash. I have no idea what the previous owner has done to/with it.

I finally found the ALDL. Unfortunetly, when they tried to run a code test it was coming back as a diagnostic error. It would not report a code back. I ordered a new IAC sensor to see if that would fix the problem, and i am going to go from there to see if i cant get this straighted out, once and for all!

. I hate those things, haha. Glad to hear that you got (most of) the problem fixed. Let us know how it turns out.
