Odd clicking sound

I have never heard this sound before until recently. Over the summer i replaced the disributer cap, plugs, and wires. Everything was fine.. until a few weeks ago. It doesn't do it all the time, sometimes as soon as i start up, other times only when i have been driving for a while. Its a clicking sound that varies with RPM. It sounds like its coming from the middle of the dash, but i am not sure. I can't hear it from the engine bay since there is a lot of noise in there anyway (the injector ticking covers it up) I thought it was my blower motor (it has made a similar noise before) but i know its not it. Does anyone have any ideas as what it could be?! Its driving me nuts and its also worrying me.

I suppose it could be a spark plug wire arcing. That would vary with the rpm. One of mine was arcing and I could hear it from inside the car.

Maybe a collapsed lifter.

I don't think its a wire arcing, i have no loss of performance... but i will check.

A colapsed lifter? Ummm... that sounds bad. How would i check that? Could it be intermitant like i am experiencing?

Not sure if it can be intermittent. It's not good but you could drive around with it, not sure if it causes permanent damage though. Start the car and see if the sound is coming from the valve covers.

if you get a hole in your exhaust manifold then it will click, but that means that the clicking would happen all the time.
