glowing header
glowing header
I have a 350 tpi and the header on the passenger side will start to glow if I run it for a little wile. I tested for vacuum leaks I think it is leaning out but it only dose it on the passage side. what could it be and what should I test.

This is normal and most likely does not indicate a problem. The issue here is that the header is not as thick as your stock manifold and made of a different metal that does not react the same way to the temperatures. Usually on a small block, when run off idle, especially with no RAM air (car not moving), the two pipes in the middle of the header will begin to glow. They do this because they are so close to gether and kind of share heat.
I would just make sure your ignition timing is correct and that you are not running ultra lean. Otherwise if all is good there, there is nothing to worry about.

In school during our dyno classes, it was always cool to shut the lights off and see the glowing headers

I've seen this before, your timing is not advanced enough. With the timing retarded your ignition is firing with the exhaust valve open and the excess fuel is burning in the headers.
Also might want to check the valves just like Mkos1980 mentioned.

I agree with the not enough timing. I know on my car when I disconnect the advance wire to set the base timing at 6*, I have to do it VERY quickly because the headers will start to glow almost instantly. As soon as the advance is put back in, the glow goes away. If the headers are coated, the heat will slightly blister the finish, so check the advance.
