Drag times
I just recently installed the Holley Stealth Ram and it hasn been nothing but trouble since i got it. I have set the timing and the fuel pressure. That is all fine. I am throwing 3 engine codes. One is "Rich Fuel, another one is "Mass Air Flow Sensor", and the last one is code 42, which i am not sure what that is. The car seems to be running fine except alittle bit of surging at idle but not really bad. What do you think my problem is? Do i need a custom burnt chip? New rear end? Thanks in advance!

If you are running on the stock chip then I'm surprised it even started up.
No, it's not your rear end.
Make your own custom chip. You can have a chip sent out a hundred times, and they'd still never get it perfect without being right at the car, thus why chip burning is something better left to do yourself.... apparently it's not THAT expensive (pays itself off in a few chip burnin sessions) and is relatively simple once you get the jist of it (sorta like learning how to wrench on cars).
Good luck!

I have tried to learn how to make my own custom chip and i cant seem to figure it out. I have a guy in about 2 hours from me that is all he does. He will come to your house and program your PROM until its set perfect.

Code 42 refers to the Electronic Spark Timing System, or E.S.T. system. This is usually caused by a poor electrical connection, a short in the circuit, a bad Ignition Module or a bad E.C.M. I 'd start by checking the connections to your M.A.F. sensor, Ignition Module, Distributor and E.C.M. since you probably disconnected a lot of this stuff when you swapped the induction system. Keep in mind that it might not be any of these things. It might turn up that all your connections and equipment are in good health, but the tune on the Prom chip is completely wrong. If you have a car manual, follow the steps to test the various components and their wiring. If everything comes up fine, have your buddy burn the chip and see if the problem persists. If it does, then you probably need to check the wiring to the E.C.M. If that's good, the E.C.M. has probably gave up the ghost.

Ok, Thanks for the advice. And unfortunetly, i do not have the owners manual. I really dont know what to do at this point. Should i get all the electrical wires checked or just go ahead and get the chip burnt? I am really not sure.

My motor barely ran without a custom chip. I couldn't seem to get the right mixture of fuel and timing. My advice is to go with Ed Wright at Fastchips. It was like night and day after I put my chip in.

What you'll need to do the checks is a Hanes or Chilton's manual for 82-92 camaros, a Voltmeter, a good eye and a lot of patience. I can still help you if you don't have a car manual, but the other things you'll need you're gonna have to provide yourself. I still suggest getting the manual, but if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. We've all been there. Let me know where you're at and what you're planning on doing and we'll go from there.

My plan is to have someone here locally do the chip. I cannot do it with FastChips because i dont have the cam specs as of right now.

Alright. Well good luck and feel free to drop a line in the future if you don't get it fixed.
