True or False?

In '87 they made 20,000 some odd IROCS with 5 speeds and 5.7 engines. They were stripped out, with no A/C, with no power locks or windows. This is coming from a neighbor of mine who worked for GM for 37 years. He owns one such car. I've driven it!!!!

Is that true?

That would be false.

Somebody who worked for GM might have had a way to get something like that; but it was not offered to the general public, especially not in that kind of numbers, which amounts to something like half of all IROCs in that year. Patently bogus on the face of it.

Or, it could be like so many others, someone (GM employee or someone else) put the 350 in it later.

This topic starts an argument every time it comes up. People think that 50 of something equals a production run, and that numbers like that means that some unobtainable combo "exists". Just try buying one.

Are you referring to '86, or just in general, because in '87 there were 350's but in '86 there were only 50 350s.

Yeah as far as production wise, there were no 350s with 5 speeds, the tranny couldn't handle the power so they got 700R4s.

If you want to be certain, check the RPO's and VIN. I've never heard 20K of them before, usually the number is 50.

Unless he fired up the factory at night and built them while nobody was around, they didn't exist.
Oh, and if they made 20000, where in the hell are they!

Bullshiznit!!!Its probably possible that 1 or 2 could have been made because the 350 will just bolt in, but that is sstill highly unlikely.
