Is an iron headed L98 really an L98?

well since the RPO code is L98, i would assume that the iron head 5.7L is an L98. since the only difference with the vett is the heads and exhaust.

Its an L98 with iron heads, thats all. B2L is the option code for ordering the L98 engine combination in a Third Gen.

GM committed the unforgivable error of giving 2 significantly different engines the same "L" number. The original L98, which came in Vettes, had 58cc aluminum heads without an exhaust crossover passage; the later F-body L98 had cast-iron 64cc heads with the exhaust passage. They were mostly similar otherwise.
B2L was the RPO option code that you ordered for installing the L98 engine into a F car. B2L is not an engine.

that isn't correct, it is as stated previous. B2L is just the option package for the L98 engine. included more than just the engine.
