Is an iron headed L98 really an L98?

Is an iron headed L98 really an L98?

Is it really an L98 or does it have its own engine code seperate from the vette, aluminum headed l98?

well since the RPO code is L98, i would assume that the iron head 5.7L is an L98. since the only difference with the vett is the heads and exhaust.

well, ive heard that the designation given to the non aluminum headed tpi 350 was B2L, but it might not be true. yyou could probably call a dealer and find out though.

Its an L98 with iron heads, thats all. B2L is the option code for ordering the L98 engine combination in a Third Gen.

GM committed the unforgivable error of giving 2 significantly different engines the same "L" number. The original L98, which came in Vettes, had 58cc aluminum heads without an exhaust crossover passage; the later F-body L98 had cast-iron 64cc heads with the exhaust passage. They were mostly similar otherwise.

B2L was the RPO option code that you ordered for installing the L98 engine into a F car. B2L is not an engine.

the original L98 came with iron heads in the vette, in 85 and early 86.

that isn't correct, it is as stated previous. B2L is just the option package for the L98 engine. included more than just the engine.

Yeah ditto. The L98 code refers to the block in this case regardless of heads.
