my car has the classic problem with cold starts and sometimes dies right after it starts. then starts right up. exhaust smeels very rich, black soot on bottom of bumper above pipes. ****ty gas mileage. any advice?

ok, replace your coolent temp sensor,
i did mine yesterday, thats why i just now went out and started it, cause yest. morning it stalled twice on me, idled perfect this morning at around 900 RPMs, put it in reverse when usualy it idled at 300, went down to 600. what kinda milage are u getting? im getting 14.5 MPG everytime.

edit: i would try replacing the O2 sensor, sounds like it could very well be ur running rich\milage problem

not sure on gas milege, just got the car recently, maybe its not that bad, im just noticing a huge difference in gas than from my 91 z28 i need to check fuel pressure im suspecting this might be culprit

 

what engine do u have?

just loooked at ur website, my gta is identical to the red one u have pictured

 

thanks for checking out the site! i would strongly suggest changing ur O2 sensor first. $25 at Auto Zone or pep boys. located on drivers side manifold (in case someone is reading who doesn't know), depending on how long its been since its been replaced,it might require ALOT of tugging on wrenches, but some liquid wrench or some sort of rust catalyst will help if u spray it on first. hopefuly that will help ur milage problem, might even pick up some more power.

No the T.Q. lockup problem is still happening, im pretty sure. i really haven't gotten in on the highway yet. But i was hopping it would of, Ill find out for sure today.
