valve cover questions

hi guys i'm thinking about getting some new valve covers and i've fallen upon 2 designs (a polished aluminum tall flame etched billet specialties set or a polished aluminum set from proform with a chevy banner across them), or modifying my current valve covers.

What i'd like to know is how i'm suppose to fill my oil with a valve cover like the billet specialties covers with just air breather holes? with no fill hole?????? (please don't say the dip stick).

Btw i know there is probably a simple answer to this or something i'm missing but, i'm drawing blanks t/y for the answers and keep the laughter to a minimum plz lol.

What's wrong with the dipstick other than it taking longer?

Its not too fun trying to get oil through the dip stick, i guess its just a sacrafice your gonna have to make for nice valve covers, Or you can always make a whole in one .

doh was hoping i overlooked something. O well i guess i can do the old dip stick hole thing if i do go that route......... (maybe i'll get lucky and the set of flame etched stockers will turn out alright so i won/t have to).

Just pour it in the PCV or the breather hole

Ya, if you have a breather cap, or your going to install one, just pull the breather cap and fill the oil, thats what I do, and just a tip, if you are going to put breather caps on, put a little bit of oil around the rim of the rubber that you will push into the valve cover, on the breather cap that you will want to remove for oil. That will allow easier removal down the road. Good luck!

I drilled a hole in mine & installed a rubber oil fill plug from 4.3L S10.

Well i don't think i'd want to drill a hole in new valve covers if i buy them ($170.00 in valve covers and me screwing it up because, i mess up my hole would realy p'o me.

Very nice valve covers btw. What kind of wires are you using on that car (i need a good set of blue wires (msds it looks like but, what kind?).

Btw will those headers work on the heads of a 1992 tbi 305? It looks like you have new heads with the older pattern side bolt design instead of centerbolt like mine so i'm not sure what differences the port design may be in comparison to mine. Also what set of headers and do they seal good and do you like them?

$170 ?? I paid less than $70 for mine on Ebay & the same company had the flame style for a little more. Drilling the hole was dirt easy. Just use a bit a couple sizes smaller & file it larger until the plug fits snug. The wire s are MSD Spiral-Core. Those headers might be a little much for a 305 TBI. They are Hooker 2210 long tubes. BTW, they will fit though.
