Frustrated

My camaro is pissing me off... Everytime I fix something... something else goes wrong either the same night or the next day.. It is a 85 Z28.. Its hard for me to keep telling my dad its a good car, but I'm starting to think it's not so good.. I need some ideas... Should I keep it or should I let her go? Right now my fuel pump went on me and leaked like 5 gallons of fuel in my drive way.. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

ask yourself...how much do i really love her?

fixing these cars comes with the territory...if it didnt, this message board would be filled with flat tire questions. money is always an issue, but maybe you can tinker around with it yourself (although fuel pump can be a pretty pain in the @ss job). I know i did not know much about auto stuff when i got my car, but with the help of this site, and my cars will to survive I have learned alot...now i just view problems as common colds that will go away with patience and TLC. and hey...there is always that one time that she gives you a great run and you say...WOW...i love this car.
good luck

Every used car needs fixing once in a while. I love my car so much that everyday I think what to do to improve it. I spend many hours in my bodies garage fixing it, but you know what it gives me pleasure to spend a little money to replace those old parts with new ones.

Fuel pump is one of these things that works hard every second that your car is running. It is a pain in the *** to replace it but I just cut a little hole in the trunk and pulled it out that way. I had to be carefull not to break those lines.

In my opinion the 3gen camaro is one of the easiest cars to work on if you have removed the Smog pump and/or A/C.

Good luck

Didn't the '85 Z28 come with a carb? If so, it's not bad at all. If it came with EFI, it may be a little bit of a pain. Not the worst thing to fix, though.

I do love my car alot, when it's running it runs great! I would hate to get rid of it, but it's making my pockets empty! I dunno what I should do...I love the attention I get in it.. Expecially the attention I get from girls .. and I know if I did go to sell it I will get mad at myself later..

There are worse things you could be spending your money on....Drugs,Alchohol,Easy Women.
After all the Bull***t, the car will still be your baby.Trust me, I know it's easy to just replace a problem car with a newer, more reliable car, but as soon as some miles are on the new one, it too will need some parts and knuckle-blood!In the end, you'll be happier with the one you've fixed yourself, plus you'll learn a lot in the process.Just remember, the most valuable lessons are often the most painfully learned!Hang in there.

what kind of fuel system do you have? My 85 Z had a carb. the pumpo is on the right side of the block, and shouldn't take more than an hour or so to change.

Mines on the passenger side of the car... it's easliy noticeable... I bought the pu mp today.. It wasn't what I thought it was gonna be... it only costed 20.00 for the pump and lookes like it should only take between 30-45mins to do... seems like it should take less then that.. it looks so easy, but rusted bolts can be a Biatch lol!
