I have a 16 gallon tank, I just replaced everything that needs to be replaced to improve my gas mileage so I am hoping for 35 to 40 MPG, ( I was getting close to that a few months ago) I will let you know in a few days.

why is there such a diffrence between one 305 and another.
some claim 27mpg others claim 16mpg. how could there be a 10mpg diffrence between essentialy the same car?

State of tune plays a huge part. TPI & MPFI are much more accurate in metering fuel whereas TBI just sprays into the throttle bores and hopes it all makes it into the cylinders. Because of this, the TBI intakes are wetted down with fuel which doesn't do much because it needs to be a vapor. Having a dry plenum makes things easier to predict & control overall.

yes but both of them ARE tbi.
how could there be such a diffrence in gas milage?
unless someone isnt doing there math right. but if they are then something is making one get horrible milage or something is making one get incredible milage.althou im pretty sure 27mpg for a v8 cant be that common.

State of tune and condition of the motor play important roles in fuel mileage. Road condition, altitude and tires also play a huge roll.
Some people have a horribly flawed concept of how TBI works.

There really is no need to hash this out. A few searches will uncover many old threads. The most recent that comes to mind is "TPI vs TBI fuel economy" in the TPI board.

Not a F-body but I can relate to a TBI getting awesome mileage. My fullsize van with a TBI 312(.040 over 305), 700r4, and 3.08 gears got 23 MPG with the A/C on and the cruise set at 75 on a long highway trip. With a 34 gallon tank that means that a range of close to 800 miles is possible.
With a L82 cam, 272 RWHP, and 3.73s I can still get 20 MPG on the highway doing 70. That means I can still do 680 miles between fillups. I get about 15-16 in town with a slightly heavy foot but I can still get 500 miles to a tank.Details
Edit-when my brother and I went to retrieve the 74 corvette he bought out in Arizona I got 16.77 mpg with the vette in tow on a 20' tandem axle trailer. With just the trailer in tow it still got about 18 and going West from Texas went easy. 2,800 in 3rd doing 60 up a mountain.
On flat land where I could maintain TCC lockup, I just let it shift into OD and drop to 2,200. Really an uneventful trip.

I get 21 to 22 MPG mixed driving(hgwy/city/abusive) in my 92 350 TPI T5.
I get roughly the same in the 87 IVERT 305 TPI T5.
Highway in the 92 seems to jump to 25 to 26 MPG.
