Can somone explain the knock sensor ? (kinda long sorry)
Im new at engines, but from what i read in the archives the "knock sensor" detects vibration, and pinging type noises. If there is a knock it retards the timing to save pistons and drivetrain parts. Now here's my questions
Question # 1 "If i had bad motor mounts could it set it off" ?
Question # 2 "how often if ever do knock sensors go bad" ?
Question # 3 "at idle my car read 12 degrees on the timing scale (propperly warmed), and it seems as if it's "loading up" all the time. Could bad timing cause my rough idle, and hestiation,(isint it supposed to be 6 degrees at idle?)
Question # 4 "how do i go about changing the timing if it's computer controlled" ?

I'm gonna do this the easy way:
Question # 1 "If i had bad motor mounts could it set it off" ?
Depends on how bad. If they are so bad you are getting some sort of metal-metal contact then yes it can set it off.
Question # 2 "how often if ever do knock sensors go bad" ?
I'm not aware of any life span of the sensor.
Question # 3 "at idle my car read 12 degrees on the timing scale (propperly warmed), and it seems as if it's "loading up" all the time. Could bad timing cause my rough idle, and hestiation,(isint it supposed to be 6 degrees at idle?)
It sounds a little low actually. The computer advances the timing at idle, so you wouldnt see 6 unless you disconnected the wire to set the timing.
Question # 4 "how do i go about changing the timing if it's computer controlled" ?
Only thing you can control without reprogramming is the base timing. To set that you have to disconnect a single wire weatherpack connector thats on the passenger side of the engine compartment, sitting above where the heater/ac box is. Its tan with a black stripe. Then it should read 6, or someone may have bumped it to 8 or 10, which should be ok.
