engine smokes

if i let my car idle for about five minutes something starts to smoke in the engine compartment any ideas on what it could be it has been sitting in the garage for a while and the last things i did to it was paint the valve covers and ditch the smog pump its a 91 350

I'm assumuming you pulled the valve covers to paint them, and now its smoking. That screams leaky valve cover gasket. Easy to fix.
