You are rotating the distributor?

the lowest i can go before stalling is about 8* i think btdc, it times with the est conected to the point that you cant see it too about 8* before the timing tab

I think then, that your balancer ring has slipped.

Other possibilities are mis-routed plug wires or timing on the wrong cylinder.

What I would do is bring #1 piston to TDC and then look at where the timing mark on the balancer is in relation to "0".

Wait a second, you need to disconnect the EST bypass connector when checking the timing, reading your last reply it seems that you're checking it with the EST bypass connector still plugged in?

no what i did is started the car, unpluged the wire, the car seemed to lower the idle, then i tried to time it, stalled it by letting it sit a 6* btdc, then started it again, plugged it in, and kwit. im thinking its maby a vacume leak, or maby im unplgging the wrong thing. the est wire is right next to the passangerside fender right, its tan with a black stripe im probably going to get a vacume gauge and check the vacume, i heard that could throw it off

Well, what you're going to notice is that as you lower the timing (smaller # of BTDC through "0" and ATDC) is the vacuum will decrease. This may mislead you into looking for a vacuum leak that is not there.

Again, I'd verify the balancer ring has not slipped...could save you a lot of headache.

Ofcourse a vacuum leak could cause the problem too and is usually easy enough to find with a can of carbcleaner.

There has been talk of TBI engines needing a lot more base timing with non-stack cams, have you tried the TBI board yet? You may want to list the cam specs on the Crane you installed.
