No power

HELP,
An exposed wire made contact with a piece of metal in the engine compartment. I saw an arch and heard a hissing sound. Car was running fine now I have no power at all, windows, radio, nothing.
Is it a fuseable link? I do not know where to start. 1987 IROC 5.7.
Please help.

First check the battery, then trace the lines from there. Check fuse box, relays, things like that. You'll find it.

Thanks 85. Strange thing though, my alarm is still workiing and the interior light by the fuse box lights. I checked the fusible link on the starter and I see a very small cut with exposed wire. All fuses are ok. DO you think I fried the battery?

Take your battery down to Advance/Autozone and get it tested. That way you can rule it out.

Battery will probably be fine. You've probably shorted something out. Fusible links will stretch when they are blown.....

Thanks guys . Fusible link replaced now car will crank. I cant get it to stay on though. I changed the spark plug wires and i followed the wiring diagram. Now it smells of gas when I try to start it. WTF

Check to see if your getting spark to the coil, then to the plugs themselves.

its probably best to just take to coil downtown and have it tested at the parts store. Then if its dead youll kill 2 birds with one stone
