305 that consumed alot of water, bearings ?

so uhmm i have this 87 TBI 305 engine, dated F288

it still ran and everything, but it burned alot of water you shoulda seen all the pure white smoke out the exhaust after it was warmed up some, it was horrible, and thats not even the word for it,,
and had about a gallon of water in the oil pan when i drained it,
and it pushed alot of air into the coolant tank all the time,

i was gonna swap off the 187 heads for a pair of 4416(carb) heads
but i got the intake off and then i stopped and decided to yank the engine and trans instead and trade the rolling body for the 82 Z28(the other day)

now the 305 is laying on the back of the toyota truck and im really debating on continuing to strip it for parts and sya bye bye to the loaded bottom end and heads- in which i already started doing-(such as the balancer and waterpump and starter and brackets and valve covers and all that)

or if maybe the engine would be ok with oil change ? lol..

what do you think all that water does to bearings as it is churned mixed into the oil ? lol...

water sinks in oil, so that means pure water was sucked into the engine often ?

thats probably really super bad eh ?

i was wanting to save the cam and lifters for my stock 73 impala 350 engine in my 81 pickup, but,, journals and such probably damaged in it right ? lifters ?

elaborate please

stupid questions yes but i just want to see reactions, and others' experiences with similar instances and what you did/found in your case

thanks

The cam & lifters won't work in a '73 block because '87-up was roller lifters (assuming this was a 3rd gen engine to start with).

It's probably best just to say goodbye to this engine.

I agree, say your goodbyes and give it a proper burial

After blowing water around inside, all the oil galleys are probably rusting away pretty good now.

the rocker studs and pushrods are real rusted, heh

Probably took out the cam & lifters too, then.

I'd say you've got yourself a very healthy boat anchor.
