winter driving( kinda long)

im not sure if its me or the car, but it snowed recently here, (this is the first snow drive i've had in this car) and after backing up the driveway i almost did a 360 on the first turn (it was at 7 am, there was ice all over the road, maybe 5 cars pased there the entire night), but still, i dont know how but on the first right turn i ended up on the other side of the road facing opposit direction, and after a stop light on a hill i couldent start without spinning the wheels, now this car is a manual, and i've driven manual for less then 4 month never in snow /ice , and i have my licence only for about a year , so it may be the experience, but stil i'd like to know is it regular for these cars or is ir just me, cuz i know it never happend to me before on either my sisters car, or my parents car,
is there any tips or anything i can do to stop this maddness...
thnx in advance

Get some better tires. I had terrible traction in the rain before I got decent ones, I did the same thing a couple times. Just go as slow as you have to.

Well you gotta remember. Your driving a sports car made for normal conditions. Most people take the car off the road for the winter because they handle like **** as you found out. There is no weight in the rear of the car so the tires will just spin. Im sure its a v8 and a manual. You could try starting off in 2nd so you dont get as good acceleration. You can put sand bags in the rear to put more weight back there. Just a few things I have heard.

Sand bags are defenetly a good idea! Just go real slow. And start in second as stated above. You'll do fine

Yep, the best advice in a light powerfull car on ice is to go slow. If you are spinning the tires, ease up. Weight and narrow tires help(the opposite of wide tire light sports cars).

350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

You'll get used to it. Just keep at it and don't exceed your comfort level.

I've been driving in prairie winter conditions for almost 30 years and I don't find the Camaro to much of a problem. I think most people are nervous because of no experience with snow and ice.

Keep in mind that the slipperiest temperature is right around freezing. It can be like driving on marbles or grease--or both

Keep your gas tank full as much as possible, I can really notice a traction improvement with a full tank.

PS. We're lucky we live in Vancouver Snow isn't too bad around here.

The best things to do is really get 4, yes 4 brand new snow tires as well as lots of weight in back and a full tank of fuel. Try dating a fat chick for a couple of winter months.
Go slow, start in 2nd, leave early, avoid big hills, bring a snow shovel and some sand to help w/traction. If my 323rwhp Formula can do it, so can you damn it. Good luck, it can get scary.

Not so much smaller in diameter, but smaller as in width. A skinny'er tire will give better traction in the snow than a wide tire will due to the fact the a wide tire will ride-up on top of the snow were a skinny'er tire will cut through the snow. Same goes rain-soaked roads. Wide tires will hydroplane more than a skinny'er tire.

Hey, why don't you have a wander down to the Cascade Crew board, there's lot of people from BC there. I live around 10th and Alma near UBC. Pics of my car are in the reader's rides.

Fat chicks, lol.

FormulaGod...LOL The passenger belt in my malibu is completely stuck so anyone kinda big can't buckle it. I've been calling it the chick guage, if they can't buckle it, they can't sit there.
