air/heat is only coming from defog vents, why??!!
I dont really know were to post this question.
Ok you guys I got a question for you all. Well when I turn on the heater or air, air only comes from the dash vents (for defogging) but only when the lever is switched to defog. And when I switch the position of the air it continues to blow (I can hear it) but air is not coming out from any vent. Does anyone know why this is happening? All this is from memory, I haven’t driven it since the motor been out (go figure!) and it been over a year. But things are slowly coming together and wouldn’t mind trying to find out the problem before the car starts running again so I can have a heater!! I would really appreciate your help, Thanks!

Something is wrong with the vacuum control of the heater system. Either it lost vacuum supply, or the vacuum switch that is part of the heater control is messed up.

What do you recommend that I do? Do you think it is part of the ac/heater controller? I was looking on eBay just a couple of min. ago and I found an ac/heater controller for cheap and no one has bid on it yet. Or do you think that the problem is not in the controller. What is the best way to find out?

listen for whistling in the HVAC. if you hear it there chances are the things hooped.
You can also pull the HVAC out and pull the main vac line off and check for vacuume there. If your not getting vac there you get the joys of chasing the line through the dash and through the engine bay to find the leak!

sounds like lots of fun!!! but sounds like my car has to be running first!! I guess Ill just wait till the car is running again to check for leaks
Thanks for your help!
edit: I remember when I pulled the engine and depressed the manifold of its pressure, there was a lot of pressure in it. But Im guessing that this wouldnt have to do with the vacuum hose that goes to the air/heater controler.

most likely your problem is on the back of the controller. been there and done that myself. your defrost vent is default - if nothing else works, those will. on the back of the controller is the vacuum lines with one supply coming from the engine and i think four others for the various outlets (heat, etc.) my guess is that the "manifold" connector on the back of the control switch is dried out and not holding a good seal anymore.

Well then Ill take a look at the lines and Ill also take a look at the back of the controler to see if the lines are damaged. Thanks a lot for your input!!
