LS1 Motor Mounts for Thirdgen F-Body?

Does anybody know who, if anybody, sells motor mounts to install an LS1 into a Thirdgen F-Body?

What else would be required to do the install as far as bolting things in place goes? Would a stock thirdgen bellhousing bolt up to an LS1? Would the tranny have to be moved forwards or backwards?

Any info you can provide on this swap is greatly appreciated,

Jason

I believe morosso(sp?) makes a kit (at least that's what i've heard) to adapt LT1, LS1, etc engines into various vehicles. As far as your tranny goes. Unless you find some kind of adapter (not sure how that would work) you will still need the 4L60E tranny. If you ask me, i would find a donor car...get all the harnesses, computer, tranny, engine, etc and do it that way.

Hi, First time on this board, but i can help you on the LS1 question.
I have a diagram that i'll send to you that shows how to adapt a standard SB chevy mount to a LS1 engine. Email me, and i'll send it your way.
The bellhousing pattern is differnt than the old SB chevy if i recall. I'd recommend getting the T56 or 4L60E with the engine.

Well, Since I haven't done this myself, I can't speak from experience. But the guys down at fastech in Garland TX said that the trans would bolt up fine (If I remember correctly hehe) I am pretty sure though they said the motor would bolt up the the trans and only the motor mounts had changed

should be able to just use 98 and newer camaro motor mounts. trans should stay where it's at.

I always though a 4l60E and a th700R4 were almost identical on the outside, so I would figure a 700R4 would bolt to an LS1... Not even remoteley sure, just speculation.. Anyone know?

The 4L60E has the same bolt pattern as the 700R4 (also called 4L60, just no E). The transmission case is the same. The difference lies with the internals. The 4L60E is just a computer-controlled version of the 700R4. The T-56 also has the same bell-housing pattern. They swap into third-gen’s with the only modification to the cross member.

I tripped through Fond du Lac Saturday and saw an '89 IROC with an LS1. Still had the TH700-R4. I didn't take a close look at the mounts, though, but I know it's a very possible installation.

the transmitions are the same but they changed some stuff on the ls1 (I think the front of the case was changed for clearance and alinment of the engine and trans) that Is why you can't use the same torque converter on the lt1 with the 4L60E and the LS1 with a 4L60E. You might need to check on this with a gm tec or someone more experanced with the two transmitions.

IIRC the LS1's rear face (where the bellhousing mounts) is flat, unlike the SBC which sticks out just a bit to where the flywheel/crank flange sits.
Also IIRC the LS1 uses a regular chevy bolt pattern.
Thus, either A.) the tranny is different to allow the TC to be deeper into it since it is missing the built in spacer that SBCs have. or B.) the TC is thinner to make up for the same lack of space.

I'd vote for B, cuz i don't see the general redesigning a tryed and true tranny if they could get away with simply changing the width of a TC. Then again, look at what they did to the LS1 clutches...egad!

How do you know it had a 700R4? He said so? They look almost exactly the same if you get under the car and look, but are not.

I know. I have a 94Z with 4l60E and a 86 FB.
