Getting REALLY Cold here.......Q
OK, so my motor is almost done and set up, but my car is not done yet. I have wiring left to do. But the motor has no oil of coolant yet. It is fully assembled.
Will the EXTREAMLY cold temps that are happening around here damage anything? Carb maybe? or anythng internally?
It is getting to around 5-10* F around here in the morning. I am getting worried that something will get damaged from this freezing cold. It is just sitting in my garadge.
I am thinking that if somthing can get hurt, I could just buy a cheap propane heater and leave it on all the time on low. I don't want to waste the electricity of a small electric one.
Please let me know if I should be scared of anything getting cold. Thanks

I wouldn't call 5-10* extremely cold, unless I was outside in the wind trying to fix something. Cars get much colder than that every winter with no problems other than their 7 year old batteries crapping out.
But, plastic does get brittle in the cold, so I wouldn't do any interior work that would involve flexing or bending plastic pieces.

I wouldnt worry one bit.
What you refer to as "cold" would be a trip to hawaii for my cars.
Wayyy up here it drops as low as -70c/-94f a couple times a winter and usually hovers around -35c/-25f for about 5 months, if were lucky it warms up for a couple days to -5c/20f.
Although i dont drive my cars in the winter months i do go out and fire them up every once in a while, they havent thrown a rod yet lol

No nothing at all. Thanks *** there is not just water in there only. I would be asking for a cracked blosk.
The block is 100% empy, just chillin' waiting for me to bolt all the stuff I need to it.
Here is sorta how it sits now. sorta an older pic, but pretty much how it looks now.

Kinda sux that it is so cold. I have been building this car for about 2.5 years now and am about to be done, but it looks like I will finish in the dead of winter when i can't drive her. Oh well.........life is screwie like that.

Just my 2 cents,It will be fine to store at that temp, but when you are ready to fire it,(been following your progress)I would advise getting the temp. up in the garage, fluids are VERY stiff in cold temps.I would recomend borrowing a torpedo typr heater from someone, would bring the garage up to 80* in a hurry.

Yes, if you do plan on firing it up for the first time in the dead of winter i would heat up the shop.
It would suck to put 2.5 years into it and spin a few bearings on initial startup lol

True. I will def wait till the garadge it HOT before I fire it up. Everything cost WAY too much to even think of doing it in the cold.

ps- I did cut and mount all my MSD universal 8.5mm wires last night along with my special plugs. I think it was around 5* or so. But I guess that aint bad compared to Canada. hehe

Looks like I am going to. I am running into too many issues with the motor.
-There is a waterpump bolt broken......
-The valve cover holes are a tiny bit too big that I drilled....
-The motor came with a long pump that was suppsed to be short....
-I got the short one, and the timing cover hits it....
-My billet pullies are for short pump, so now I need to get long ones....
-My low billet alt mount also had a bolt break in the block.....
-My dropped springs dropped my car too low.......
-My Lambo door struts got bent on one door when i was taking them off, need new ones (again)......
And the list goes on. I am running out of $ fast. Looks like I might have to wait for the summer to finish. I might just lock it up and forget it till then. Sux since I have been so determined to finish this spring. Oh well. I hope it is all worth it.
ps- How do you get bolts out of the block that have snapped almost flush? My drill bit wont even drill into the bolt more than a few mm.

If you don't have access to a welder, you'll have yo invest in some high quality drill bits and easy outs.
