trick flow heads and pro magnum 1.6 roller rockers
anyone have this setup? did you find any problems with them?
i have the trick flow twisted wedge heads, and when i put on my comp cam pro magnum 1.6 roller rockers my intake/exhaust are VERY close to eachother, almost touching
did anyone have this problem with theirs?
because i just started the car tonight after just putting these in, and im getting a clicking noise under the valve covers, and im guessing its the roller rockers.
unless they are hitting the studs again like my other rocker arms did, thats why i changed.

I'll say up front that I don't have the Twisted Wedge heads but have considered them a couple of times over the years. I think you'll find the info in the two posts above very helpful. In them TFS says the Pro Magnums are compatible with the Twisted Wedge heads. I've read other posts saying these rockers are noisier than other roller rockers, so maybe that's all you're hearing. If you search for posts by "Artie@TFS" you'll get a couple of other posts you might want to read.

thank you very much, i guess it does show he "recommends" these rocker arms for my heads, but they are SO close together, they are touching it looks like. and they are noisy, but its a ticking, its very loud if you stand away from the car, im not sure if this is what they are suppose to sound like or not.

i wrote Artie@TFS an email ill await his response, but id like to hear from other TFS twisted wedge owners and the rockers they used, preferably if they used CC pro magnum 1.6 rr's, if they had any issues of the rockers so close they are almost touching.

well i was searching google, and on summitracing.com and came across a set of these.
1309-8 Chevrolet V8 265-400

these are made for trick flow twisted wedge heads, it didnt give me any information AT ALL the specs on these, but im assuming they would be not as wide as normal comp cams pro magnum, im not sure of any other reason.

and well my valve lash, i shut off the motor and took off the valve cover, and all rockers were nice n snug did not move around at all, so im assuming none came loose.
only thin i can guess is the ticking is the rockers hitting, and i MUST have the wrong rockers, but i was told by numerous people that these rockers were compatible with twisted wedge heads, im stumped, and dont want have to buy another set of rocker arms.

That sounds too noisy to me. Pull a couple of them and inspect them. If they're hitting you will see signs of it on the rocker.

thats what i thought, i had the valve covers off, they werent hitting the rocker studs, or the head bolt, so i have no idea what could be wrong. ill take a few off tomorrow as see if there are any scratches or marks anywhere.

Pro-mags are pretty wide rockers. Best bet would be to turn the engine over by hand and inspect all the rockers to see how close they really get and if they touch while in motion. From the pic, though, they look REALLY close to eachother.

well if they do touch, what will i have to do, get new rockers, isnt there pro magnum's i can get specifically for the intake side of the twisted wedge heads? would be be not as wide so the rockers wouldnt hit, while the motor was running i checked the rockers they werent hitting the rocker stud of head bolt so only other thing i can figure is they are hitting eachother that what the ticking is.

My bad, I had a few windows open and guess I missed the fact that he has the twisted wedge heads
From the video, that sounds like some nice valve lash. I would think that the rockers hitting would sound a little worse. Pop the valve covers, start it up, and slowly tighten each rocker. See if the noise goes away. Just don't rev it up or you'll end up with an oil mess.

well i followed your advice and did ANOTHEr valve lash, ticking is almost completely gone!! instead of a multiple tick, its coming from just one spot on the driverside so im guessing i have to check one rocker, thanks alot, motor sounds awesome without the ticking!!!

have you looked at the valve covers? those rockers do look awful close but they could also be hitting the inside of the valve cover. that makes a lot of racket

yeah i took off the roller rockers and not even a SCRATCH on any of them, so it had to be the valve lash

Mine took a while to get set right. Make sure that you have the set screw out far enough so it doesn't bottom out against the stud. I set mine by loosening until it just started to tick, then tighten 1/2 turn past where it stopped ticking. Did this for each rocker.

they are all tight, but im getting an awful tick on the driver side only, it may be a rocker but i dont think so, feels like metal slapping metal

Maybe you should stop running it then. Could be an exhaust leak, but a metal on metal sound is never good

Correct me if I'm wrong but that close part of the rocker (trunion) doesn't even move, so why would it be making noise? Unless of course they are wedged together from tightening the lash causing a valvetrain misalignment. I would loosen them completely off one cylinder at a time and make sure they are all the way down on the stud before you start to tighten. Its possible as you start to "pull them down" they (trunions)are wedging against each other misaligning the valvetrain. I wouldn't run it anymore until you figure it out. I think the trunions are to wide for the twisted valvetrain.

Make sure you have the correct length pushrods. They are a custom length for the intake side. You can wipe out a set of guides in the Twisted Wedges very quickly if you don't have the correct geometry.
Twisted Wedges require a narrow bodied rocker. Of course, Trick Flow recommends thier own but a lot of guys I know are using the Comp Cams Magnum roller tips and for going the cost of a fully rollerized rocker. To my knowledge, all the Magnum roller tips for SBC will work including the self aligning.

well i used a pushrod checker and im pretty sure its right, lol!! also i was told BY trick flow and people on this board CC PM 1.6 rr's are recommended for these heads, i set the valve lash and all the ticking has gone away
