identify this please

too bad i cant find a picture of the engine bay of a similar car to mine. ill see if i can find one before i post this,

my car had an electrical fire recently, two wires on the ecm harness must have touched or something and melted themselves and a few things around it, (ac box, spark plug wires and something else i cannot identify) the part i cannot figure out what is that i will probably have to replace is to the left(passenger side) of the distributer. there is, what looks like a spark plug wire running from the top of the distibutor to this device. i am not sure what this does or how to describe it better, it was rather melted in the fire. anyway any input would be greatly appreciated, i hope to get my firechicken back on the road soon!

Electrical Short.

Leaking oil ignites.

Fuel Leak.

Just because it wants to... <-- most likely cause......

im not sure how it caught on fire, bought it that way, damage didnt look too bad, looked like a minor fire atleast from what i can tell. the guy told me that two wires touched and it sparked and caught on fire, who knows, i dont see how two wires could have touched, and the part of the ecm harness that is burnt is too far away from the motor to be affected by the heat, not too sure there.

hmm so it might be the ignition coil? about how much do those run new?

thanks for the help!

Since you have to replace it anyway, might just as well get an MSD, or some such performance coil. Check out summits website.
