AN sizes?
I'm going to be replaceing the temporary 3/8 rubbe hose that I'm using on my fuels lines and I will be replacing my damn tranny hard lines with some Summit Stainless Steel Hose SUM-230615. (If anyone has a better/cheaper suggestion, plz tell me).
I need a 3/8 size hose, but the hoses listed on summit are in AN sizes. I have no clue what AN size I need to match 3/8 (or as close as possible).
Why do they use AN sizes now? How can I convert them to normal sizes? I tried a google search, but didnt get much.

If I remember correctly, AN (short for Army/Navy) fittings go by 16ths.
-8 (dash 8) is equal to 1/2 inch (8/16ths)
-6 (dash 6) equals 3/8 inch (6/16ths)
-12 (dash 12) equals 3/4 inch (12/16ths)
etc.

Don't forget that you need thread adapters and hose ends with the braided line. You can't just slip it over and clamp it. You'll need a trans cooler with AN fittings. Perma Cool makes an awesome cooler.

you can't just clamp them, and yes AN fittings are expensive. I have probably $500 in just fittings throughout my car.

AN lines are expensive, but also well worth it. Only way to do any kind of custom plumbing IMO.
For you though, use some steel trans cooler line and come out of the trans case with that. A foot or so will do, just enough to come out of the trans and bend towards the front of the car. Flare the end then slip on a piece of hose. Run it to the front of the car away from heat and moving suspension parts to the cooler. For your fuel lines make sure the hose is compatable with gasoline.

i'm still really fuzzy on pipe sizes, AN sizes, etc, but what's wrong with an inverted flare type fitting and lines? aka fuel lines, aka brake lines.

problem is, my SS lines didnt seal and pukled fluid all over. I tried several times and after 35 quarts of ATF, I got some fittings, and coupled the barbed fittings with the SS lines, it worked for a bit, but it doesnt hold the pressure now for some reason, and my lines have been crushed. As for the fuel lines, I have rated hose, but they come real close to the headers, I wanted something like braided SS hoses. The hose for the tranny has to hold 200psi or more and 300* temps. Could I get some braided SS sleeves for the hose I have now? I really cant afford AN stuff right now and I need to drive the car. I can hold on fuel lines, but I need trans lines.
Edit: I have brake line going to from the front to the back the length of the car, but I need hose to connect to the regulator and the pump assembly.

sounds like you were using the wrong size. You need to flare the end of the line where the rubber slips over or else the line pressure will blow it off. Come out of the trans case with steel then convert it to rubber to the cooler. As for the fuel lines, you need to keep them away from heat no matter what kind of hose you use.

I have the correct lines, the ss lines were made by Bowtie Overdrives specifically for my 700R4. The hose I used came in my trans cooler kit, so it's the right size. It was snug before the clamps. It held for a while, but I crushed the lines last time I put the tranny up so it's all messed up now. The end of the hard lines where the hose goes to and from my trans cooler is not flared like it is supposed to be and there is no problem there with leaks. I dont like the hard lines, they are too close to my headers. I've positioned them best I can, but I still dont like them, and now that they are crushed, it leaks like hell. You can see where i've been around the block, tire marks and atf trails!

Re: AN sizes?
Search turned this thread up.
So is the AN based off the hose diameter, or the fitting dia or both?, I have no idea what the size is for the 4L60 cooler lines, the cooler lines look small I have no way of measuring them because some1 snipped them at the nipple. My fittings are .490 in diameter, respectively its close enough to say 1/2"? I need them from the trans fittings to the front of the car into a stand alone cooler.
